Song of The Bird King

SOTBK will be releasing archive music recordings of Filipino Indigenous music and a new Electric Kulintang recording, DRUM CODES for 2011. The title film is in development featuring 7 Indigenous Filipino tribes that Ibarra and Rodriguez have worked with and the near extinct Philippine Eagle. Ibarra is honored to be a 2010 TED Fellow and chosen as a delegate of Asia Society Asia 21 Young World Leaders to discuss global issues at Young World Leaders Summit in Jakarta this December 2010. Her work as a Composer/Percussionist has brought her in the 5 years to become involved with Indigenous culture and Ecology, cultural preservation and humanitarian work.

New Ensemble and Sessions in NYC:
NYPE, New York Percussion Ensemble, co-founded by Susie Ibarra and Roberto Rodriguez, will be starting a series in Harlem NewYork this fall consisting of guest percussion composers to lead the group and a series of informal improvisation jams. Music-Theatre Group presents a residency of SATURNALIA for the month of December with previews December 20th through 22nd.
SATURNALIA with music composed by Susie Ibarra, text by Yusef Komunyakaa directed by Daniel Fish and produced by Diane Wondisford and MTG, 10 Jay Street, DUMBO, Brooklyn NY. Saturnalia is a story of the illusion of paradise, the masks we wear set amidst the complex backdrop of human trafficking, war and AIDs in Thailand.

RECORDINGS
Ibarra is currently performing from music from her records Drum Sketches, Dialects /EK, and chidlrens work with Mundo NIños Lullabies and Thiis is a Beat! In 2011 Ibarra will record, Mysteries of Nature, solo and chamber works for her new quartet featuring Jennifer Choi (violin), Kathleen Supove (piano), Bridget Kibbey (harp), Susie Ibarra (drumset and percussionst), and guest solostis Pauline Oliveros (accordion) and Roberto Rodriguez (electronics.)
